Learn all about The Plague!

When plague struck the village of Eyam in 1665, the villagers made the extraordinary sacrifice of isolating themselves in order to prevent the spread of this terrible disease. The harrowing story is the central theme of Eyam Museum, which also tells the story of the village from prehistory to the present.

Our new EYAM CONNECTIONS room opened in March. See the rather gruesome facts about 17th century medicine, and a display of early medical instruments. A digital display, "Eyam then and now" shows how the village has changed over the past 100 years. Other artifacts from the museum collection are being used to assemble more exciting new displays.
